Macular Degeneration Books
82 million baby boomers are aging! With their fixation on youth, they want to look good and feel good. They are taking care of themselves.
They are also reading about the diseases of old-age. As a result, marketers, authors and retailers are trying to reach them with products, appealing models with a bit of gray in their hair, and information that they will find relevant.
Before 1995, there were only four books published on the subject of macular degeneration. Since 1995, there is a growing number of books, articles and resources available dealing with age-related macular degeneration; how to prevent it, how to recognize it, how to seek treatment and how to cope with it.
Books dealing with all aspects of age-related macular degeneration are listed below.
The American Academy of Ophthalmology, the world's largest association of eye physicians and surgeons warns Americans about claims made on the Internet, in newspapers, books and magazines announcing cures for macular degeneration. "Investigate the claims thoroughly and talk with your Eye M.D, before undergoing any treatments," advises Academy spokesperson Robert M Christiansen, M.D. "Most of these treatments have not been proven safe or effective and may be very costly."
