Seminar: October 10, 2009

On October 10, 2009, The Delaware Valley Retina Associates once again partnered with national non-profit organization the Macula Vision Research Foundation (MVRF) to offer a seminar on macular degeneration to people living near Princeton, NJ.  The informative presentation was open to the public and offered as a free service to people living with macular degeneration, their friends, family and caregivers.

Hosted at the Paul Robeson Center for the Arts, the purpose of the annual meeting is to educate the community about age related macular degeneration and the effects it can have on people who live with it.

Lea Bramnick, the executive director of the MVRF, opened the meeting by talking about her organization, and explaining to the audience how the mission of MVRF, which is to provide support and research, is focused on education and funding groundbreaking research in the search for a cure.

After Dr. Darma Ie from the Delaware Valley Retina Associates spoke about the latest in research and treatments for macular degeneration, Dr. Jeffrey Lipkowitz, discussed the important role of genetics.  He answered difficult questions about family members inheriting the disease, and provided an update on current genetic research projects.

The final speaker was Barbara Sarrett, who spoke eloquently about her own experiences living with Macular Degeneration.  Her talk was titled “Living Well with Macular Degeneration” and her positive discussion received great applause from the appreciative crowd.
