Seminar: October 25, 2008

Ophthalmic Subspecialty Consultants partnered with the Macula Vision Research Foundation to present its third annual free seminar on age related macular degeneration.  Held on Saturday, October 25 at Virtua West Jersey Hospital, the crowded auditorium was filled with people eager to learn all they could about the condition.

Lea S. Bramnick, Executive Director of MVRF, welcomed the crowd.  She explained that her organization, headquartered just across the river outside of Philadelphia, is unique in its mission to educate as well as provide research funds for treatments and a cure for macular degeneration.  Lea introduced Jason Hsu, M.D., and Dr. Hsu gave a talk on the newest information available on both research and treatments.  Richard Brilliant, OD, then talked about the critical role that family and friends can play in helping someone cope with living with macular degeneration.  Finally, Mary Betty Roeder, a motivational speaker who has the condition herself, provided a humorous, honest and very inspirational account of how she survives and thrives with her macular degeneration diagnosis.

The Foundation continues to be unique as 100% of all funds raised go to research and education.  All administrative costs are underwritten.
