Seminar: September 26, 2009

On September 26, 2009, the Chester County Eye Care Associates partnered with national non-profit organization, the Macula Vision Research Foundation (MVRF), to educate the West Chester community about age related macular degeneration.  The free, public seminar was hosted at Chester County Hospital.

The first speaker was Lea Bramnick, the executive director of the MVRF, who talked about the organization.  Ms. Bramnick addressed its unique dual goals of education and fundraising, and noted that MVRF’s fundraising efforts go entirely towards education and funding groundbreaking research in the search for a cure.

Dr. Bruce Saran addressed the attentive group with a discussion of the newest research and treatment options.

Dr. Michael Ward went next, talking about the critical role played by genetics.  Dr. Ward answered difficult questions about whether family members are at risk of getting macular degeneration, and what are some preventative measures.

The last speaker was Barbara Sarrett, who spoke from personal experience about “living well” with macular degeneration.
